MountcardAt Gleeson Framers we offer an extensive range of mountboard in a variety of colours, textures, styles, thickness and qualities from the soft neutral tones of museum boards, zingy pops, rustic linens, deep dark gothic hues and all colours in-between. We use high quality conservation and museum quality boards as both the mount and the undermount.
The main function of the mountboard is to stop the glazing from touching the art work; the undermount offers support and protection from any impurities in the backing board. The mount also has an aesthetic value giving space, accentuating colour or adding depth. Conservation board is made from wood pulp, it is chemically treated to remove lignin and other harmful impurities and then buffered with calcium carbonate leaving the board alkaline. Conservation boards come in varying thickness and a wide range of colours. Museum board is made from cotton fibre, containing no lignin and thereby eliminating the issues of acids in the board. Museum boards come in varying thickness but a limited range of colours. We offer expert consultation, giving you as much time and advice as you need to make the right choice from the many mounting options and techniques available to you, ensuring that the end result is exactly right for you. |
